- How do CCCS Services work?
Consumer Credit Counseling Service is a non-profit United Way Agency, which helps people who are having financial difficulties. We can set-up an appointment for you to come in and see a counselor, or we can gather your information
by phone or by mail. You and your counselor will develop a monthly budget for your living expenses. The counselor will
help you develop a plan to make payments to your creditors with what is left over.
- What about charges and fees?
Our counseling is always free. There is a monthly fee for our Debt Management Program. That fee is never more
than $35 a month. We also ask for a one time education fee, usually $40 or less.
- What if I don't know who I owe?
Some clients choose to review their credit report with a counselor prior to discussing a plan for paying their creditors.
For a nominal fee, CCCS can get copies of your credit reports at the time of the appointment. This can assist you
in organizing your financial indebtedness and compiling a complete list of your bills.
- Do you take my paycheck to pay my bills?
No. It would be your responsibility to send in or bring in the agreed upon payment. Your payment would then be disbursed to your creditors.
- Can you get my creditors to lower my interest rates and payments?
Many creditors are willing to lower interest rates, lower payments, and bring accounts current for clients on our
Debt Management Program.
- Can you make collectors stop calling me?
Once a DMP has been accepted by your creditors they will usually not call you, as long as you are keeping up
your DMP payments to CCCS.
- Why choose Consumer Credit Counseling Service?
CCCS is a community-based organization addressing the financial challenges of our clients and community.
CCCS is an active member of the National Foundation of Credit Counseling (NFCC), with 1400 offices in the US
and Puerto Rico. CCCS is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services to Families and Children Inc.
